Summary

Danka's first try in a K1, on the Thames near Lechlede, in mild cloudy weather.

With trepidation about her first k1 experience, DK favoured waiting until the crowds subsided at our wild camp spot / launch spot, which took a while given how busy it was on a Bank Holiday Sunday (the Wharf was stacked full of vehicles the whole time). JC selfishly abandoned the new entrant bankside, so he could stretch his (kayaking) legs.

Eventually the crowds subsided and DK took to the water, heading upstream to St. John's Lock, and mooring at The Trout Inn for fuel, and a stomp to Lechlede Londis. Returning downstream we overshot Cheese Wharf in favour of visiting Buscot lock. On arrival at Buscot, the lock was opening, and the keeper hollered over to enquire if we were going in ... quick check with DK and we did, for another first for DK, running a lock in a K1.

We proceeded downstream before turning about at a Marina, returning once again through the attended lock, and exiting at Cheese Wharf.

DK throughly enjoyed her first time in a K1, and nailed basic techniques in no time, bringing her up to a respectable pace. Boats were locked on top of the van again as we settled in for the evening, in a now surprisingly quiet Wharf.
